flip is an annual literary festival which takes place in paraty, rio de janeiro.
this year, I spent 5 days there with carcamo, zuri and alexandre reider painting and photographing the city.

the 1st-5th growths; premier crus - painted with wine
for the 1855 Exposition Universelle de Paris, emperor napoleon III requested a classification system for france's best bordeaux wines which were to be on display for visitors from around the world. the best of the best wines were assigned the highest rank of premier cru; only four wines, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux and Château Haut-Brion were deemed worthy.
the 1855 list remained unchanged for over a hundred years until finally Mouton Rothschild was promoted to premier cru status in 1973, after decades of relentless lobbying by its powerful owner.
anyone who knows anything about wine dreams of tasting something from this select group. Ideally I would like to paint each chateau with it's respective wine, however that is financially unfeasible so I went ahead and used a run of the mill bordeaux.

I was invited by IDEAFIXA to participate in their collaborative sketchbook project. After having studied calligraphy with the amazing Claudio Gil I tried to do something new with this painting.
I used silver and gold watercolor so that depending on the angle, you can see different shapes.
